Today in 1955 a fourteen year old boy by the name of Emmett Till was murdered for supposedly flirting with a white woman. The woman, Carolyn Bryant Dunham still lives today. Dunham’s husband and his friend followed Emmett Home after the incident with Carolyn and they took him out into the woods where they beat him, shot him several times, gouged his eye out and then through his body into the Tallahatchie River attached to a cotton-gin with barbed wire also attached.
At his funeral his mother asked for an open casket funeral so the “World could see what they did to my baby” Mamie Till said.
